How can we make a difference?
Many hear the term "Mental Health Disability" or "Psychiatric Disability" and think of Emotional Support Dogs, and while an ESA animal can definitely be helpful, it often times is not enough. According to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), "an individual with a disability is defined by the ADA as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a person who has a history or record of such an impairment, or a person who is perceived by others as having such an impairment. The ADA does not specifically name all of the impairments that are covered. "
So what is the problem you might ask? On average, the cost of a trained service dog is $50,000. and can take 18 to 36 months to complete training. Approximately 50% of puppies who enter a service dog program fail out at some point. These facts become obstacles for those who are at the poverty, low- and middle-income level, that is where we come in. We are working to provide ethically and responsibly bred, quality Labrador Puppies to train as service dogs for those in need of canine support for a Mental Health/ Psychiatric Disability. We work to raise funds, taking on the financial burden to provide a Service Dog for those who cannot otherwise afford one. Currently we work in partnership with accredited service dog organizations by donating puppies that test well for service work and we offer grants to assist with the adoption fee and can offer training by a sliding fee scale based on affordability, not income.
WE cannot do this alone! So how can you help? We have three options, Volunteer, Donate or Sponsor. We are in need of volunteers to help with us here at the farm with our puppies and dogs. Everything from cleaning to projects, to puppy socialization, testing and working with our adult dogs or dogs in training. We are also in need of Puppy Raisers and those who enjoy organizing, writing newsletters and want to help communicate our mission to the public. To volunteer, please select and complete the VOLUNTEER APPLICATION.
We accept donations by check, PayPal, or you can purchase from one of our Amazon Wish lists below. To help by sponsoring a puppy adoption, donated puppy or trained puppy, please reach out to us, SPONSOR A PUPPY.
Checks or other donations can be sent to (A letter of receipt will be returned with our 501(C)3 information for your tax person):

We happily offered this great program a yellow Labrador Retriever, named in honor of SO1 (SEAL) Patrick Feeks, killed in action Afghanistan 16 August 2012. SO1 Feeks mother Virginia shared, "Patrick dreamed of becoming a Navy SEAL since he was 8 years old. Everything he did was geared toward becoming a SEAL. He died doing what he loved, that gives us some solace." I want to thank SO1 Patrick Feek's family for sharing his story, it it an honor to share it. Visit SO1 Patrick Feek's Memorial FB Page. We can't wait to see Hero Dog Patrick change the world with his life making skills. |
